The Pacific Media Expo held yearly in the Pasadena area this year it was held at the Pasadena Convention Center. PMX took place this year on September 5-7 on the labor day weekend. PMX has always been regarded as the convention for Jrock, jpop and Asian fashion. This year and actually something I have been noticing has been the rise of the Lolita fashion scene. Perhaps it had to due to the fact there was the boutique fashion show that offered various clothing lines such as Baby the stars shine bright, Alice and the pirates, Fancy Kitten, doll delight and many others. The gaming room was also present like with any con. The Extra Life guild was there to promote their charity fund raising events for gamers I got to talk with Dennis and find out about this great opportunity to help kids in need while playing video games. My favorite room was the photo room which let the guests and cosplayers a chance to get photos taken and printed on site with professional grade equipment. The shots that room pulled off were amazing and everyone I saw leave the room while I was there left happy. The artist alley and exhibit hall were separated and I thought that was awesome gave people more room to walk around and also not have to worry about your art being overshadowed by the One Piece figures. One very awesome thing I saw at PMX was the fighting/hybrid training panels. These panels were held by various groups and individuals including Surawit Kang Sae aka Wit.I think these interactive events are great and help people learn about new skills and potential new hobbies and friends while doing the poses and techniques I saw. The big name draw for PMX was the Femme Fatal concert a Japanese jrock band with influences of old school jrock and Malice Mizer. They rocked the house as I needed to put on my earplugs while I got great shots of them live seems my ears aren’t what they used to be :p At the end of the event I left happy and with a medium size con like this it was easy to network and make new friends and talk about things so I recommend checking PMX out if you want to get away from a big city and relax a bit more in a calm setting.
